Vought says National Center for Atmospheric Research will be dismantled [View all]

The National Science Foundation will dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought announced Tuesday night, the latest salvo in the Trump administration’s push to gut federally funded climate research.

“This facility is one of the largest sources of climate alarmism in the country,” Vought wrote in a post on X.

Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, and in operation since 1960, NCAR has long provided universities and academics with state-of-the-art resources to perform advanced earth system research.

Its loss, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) said in a statement Tuesday, would mean “science is being attacked.”

“NCAR delivers data around severe weather events like fires and floods that help our country save lives and property, and prevent devastation for families,” he said. “If these cuts move forward we will lose our competitive advantage against foreign powers and adversaries in the pursuit of scientific discovery.”
