There’s few things in this world as diverse as a big, deep, protest. You will have a Blackbloc, you will have a violent fringe, and you will face arrests and beat downs. There’s no risk-free protesting, at least that can affect anything.

There’s also no amount of good behavior that will even save you from the vilification, mockery, and violence of your opponents. They aim for the peaceful protestors– the other ones might fight back.

There is no large movement without a diversity of tactics, including remaining peaceful in the face of overwhelming violence. But if that’s your choice, make sure there’s cameras on you when you get beat down, both to make it matter, and to make sure you survive and get medical care.

I think your last point about having a camera recording any interactions is really important. These have been the only truth-to-power that we, the common people have been able to use frequently and successfully. When the regime closes down access to internet streaming then we are screwed, royally.
