4. Skiing is expensive. Now and always.

I skied a couple of seasons in the 1970s. Expensive then, too. If you wanted to ski the mountain, you paid whoever ran the resort for the privilege.

Still the same. Expensive hobby, as sports hobbies go. So is scuba diving or water skiing or even fishing. There's equipment to own. You have to get to the place. You have to stay there. If you're a fashionable person, you have to dress the part.

If you want to ski at Vail, you pay Vail prices. Of course, you could also go to Yosemite National Park and ski at Badger Pass for much, much less. That's what we did, back in the 70s. We could barely afford that. It was fun, though, for a few years. Then we stopped.
