(3 posts)The Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world As it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right If I surrender to His Will; So that I may be reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with Him Forever and ever in the next. Amen. (prayer attributed to Reinhold Neibuhr, 1892-1971)

This was written during the NAZI AUTHORITARIAN Regieme during which Neibuhr and Boenhoffer were struggling so it is NOT simple minded dribble but lived wisdom. The Center of This is about finding the Wisdom and the Courage "to change the things I CAN."
This is not simple pacifism it is BOLD ACTION accepting there are consequences and hardships, NO MATTER OUR CHOICES, but embracing these actions boldly: trusting that they are little steps leading to justice in some way. Will some attempts to change the things we can... be mistakes... YES. BUT TO DO NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION. To do nothing is to Aquiess to EVIL and this is definitely the WRONG ACTION. RESIST, RESIST, RESIST. Some will be non-violent. Some may chose other options. We each must decide where we stand. The AUTHORITARIANS rarely are swayed by non-violence. That requires empathy. IF they have None, THEY have made the choice, of how the people must respond. God(dess) Help us ALL.
