Research by psychologists has long shown that one trait all serial killers share is a lack of empathy. That inability to connect with their victims, that inability to feel any normal human compassion is what allows them to kill and keep on killing without a shred of remorse. And that lack of empathy is what allows Musk and Trump to steal food from kids' school lunch programs, from those on Medicaid, from those who rely on food banks . . .

There may be no single human trait more fundamental than empathy. Without it, people are monsters. With it, we can relate to one another on the most basic levels of human existence and realize that skin color, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation--none of those differences matter because we're all just flesh and bones.

But lack of empathy is the cornerstone of MAGA. The entire cabinet and most of MAGA members of Congress are without a modicum of empathy, which allows them to be so cruel, so hateful, so disconnected from reality. A rock, a doorknob, a broom stick has more empathy than Musk and Trump combined.

That lack of empathy is also why it's impossible to find any logic, any path to sway their entrenched fantasies. And it's why blaming Democrats for failing to appease them is a false narrative. If America had enough decent people who possessed the trait of empathy, it wouldn't have mattered who was running against Trump. That ticket would have won in a landslide. There is a fundamental human problem in this country when even a slight majority continues to support the human scum that are Musk and Trump and MAGA in general.
