Brexiteer Ratcliffe's Carmaker Ineos Blames EU for Trump Tariffs [View all]

"The carmaker founded by Brexit-backing billionaire Jim Ratcliffe criticized the European Union over US auto tariffs, accusing Brussels of failing to negotiate with President Donald Trump’s administration.

Ineos Automotive Ltd., which makes its Grenadier sport utility vehicle in France, said it’s “outraged that the tariff situation with the US has been neglected by the EU.” Trump’s additional 25% import duty will be collected from April 3.

“President Trump has been very clear on his intention to implement tariffs on the auto industry,” Ineos said in a statement Thursday. “He has been asking for fairness and reciprocity and yet European leaders have not come to the table to negotiate a better solution.”

Ineos is a petrochemicals company that has expanded into other sectors in recent years. Its auto business has faced challenges since Ratcliffe set it up when Jaguar Land Rover stopped making its original Defender model.

The company paused Grenadier production for several months last year after a key supplier collapsed. This month, it recalled more than 7,000 vehicles in the US after customers reported doors on some of them flew open while driving."

No surprise, since this is coming from a brexit-baking billonaire Ratcliffe.

History time and again has demonstrated that tariffs have never worked in building one's economy.

The tariffs will not impact Tesla since the Tesla vehicles sold in the U.S. are made in the U.S., and that stock is up 6% today, but what seems to be completely ignored is the competition entering the market, and most important the largest consumers of Teslas in the U.S. are by those who are environmentally conscious and progressives, and based on the antagonism that musk has generated toward those demographics, I don't see that group buying future Tesla vehicles, and would be very surprised if the NASCAR Maga crowd starts to buy electric vehicles over their ICE.
