The actual cost to house a prisoner is much closer to $15,000, said Caitlin ONeil, a criminal justice analyst for the nonpartisan Legislative Analysts Office. Direct costs include things such as food and clothing while the remaining 91% of spending per prisoner comes from fixed costs like salaries and facility upkeep. 15K per inmate.

The average corrections officer in CA makes north of 158K per year, and that doesn't include the pension expenses.

Motive needs to be established. Theft to fend off starvation ? Seems unlikely.

Sometimes they get 30-90 days at county. I worked NBN at the county hospital. Moms would come in from the jail that
