Of course these are international waters that can't be cut off by any country, but maintaining bases and facilities on Greenland (refueling, etc.) would make his shipping ventures more lucrative. And since the passage still freezes over sometimes, he could charge other shippers for clearing the route. He's rich enough to put together a fleet of ice-breakers for that purpose.
