I owe so much to some of my teachers. I hate to see teachers and teaching disrespected. It's so hard to imagine someone could get through twelve or sixteen (or more) years of education and not have had their lives changed for the better by interactions with a great teacher.

There are two teachers I had in high school, and several college professors that I think about to this day with enormous appreciation. I hope the students of 2024 have that experience: the experience of having a teacher who becomes a role model, a mentor, or helps the student to recognize what it is they do well, and to take it as far as they can.

Teaching is the most important job on the planet.
