How every House member voted on the failed attempt to avoid a shutdown [View all]

The House failed to fund the government in a vote Thursday evening, increasing the likelihood of a government shutdown beginning Saturday. The bill would have extended federal finances to mid-March, lifted the government’s borrowing limit for two years and sent more than $100 billion to farmers and natural disaster survivors.

The GOP-led funding bill, which required a two-thirds majority to advance, failed in a 174-to-235 vote as hard-right Republicans and nearly all Democrats voted against. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) fell more than 100 votes shy of what he needed to pass it. Eleven Democrats and nine Republicans did not vote.
