Because there are absolutely enough GOPers in districts that will likely flip in 2026 to not give a crap about being primaried. But Johnson has zero margin to keep the Speakership in the next congress. Thus, he needs political cover.

This is Johnson versus Musk showdown. And Johnson is in a very weak position. However, the winner might be the Democrats if Johnson does fall.
