Trump says US conducting 'major combat operations' in Iran

(Politico) President Donald Trump early Saturday announced the U.S. began “major combat operations” in Iran, saying the Middle Eastern nation rejected American calls to halt its nuclear weapons production. Instead, Trump claimed, the Iranians “attempted to rebuild their nuclear program and continue developing long range missiles that can now threaten our very good friends and allies in Europe, our troops stationed overseas and could soon reach our American homeland.” The president, in video remarks posted to his Truth Social account Saturday, said the strikes were part of a “massive and ongoing operation” against the regime in Tehran.

Trump warns some Americans may die amid US strikes in Iran

(Reuters) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States had begun "major combat operations" in Iran, warning that there may be U.S. casualties. The strikes, which Trump said were aimed at destroying Iranian missiles and annihilating its navy, follow repeated U.S.-Israeli warnings that they would strike Iran again if it pressed ahead with its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Iran Targets US Bases in Gulf in Retaliation for Airstrikes

(Bloomberg) Iran launched attacks targeting US military bases around the Persian Gulf in retaliation for American and Israeli airstrikes on its nuclear and government sites on Saturday, Iranian state media reported. Iran’s state-run Nour News, which is close to Iran’s security apparatus, said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used heavy missiles to target several bases simultaneously including Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain.

Trump gambles new Iran strikes will save flailing MAGA agenda

(Bloomberg) The US-Israeli attack on Tehran on Saturday marks a turning point for President Donald Trump, who is wagering that a war - the kind of which he once vowed not to start - will strengthen his second-term agenda. In a break from his campaign promises to keep the US out of foreign wars, Trump decided to attack - despite what Arab mediators described as significant progress in nuclear talks with Tehran, and in the face of polling showing most Americans oppose fresh military action.

MAGA Melts Down Over Iran War No One Voted For

(Daily Beast) President Donald Trump is facing a furious MAGA backlash after embarking on an unauthorized strike in Iran that he admits will kill U.S. citizens. After being urged by sections of his own base not to enter another foreign war, the president announced on Saturday morning that he had launched a major attack on Iran as he vowed to eliminate the country’s nuclear program—which he insisted months ago had been completely “obliterated”—and bring about a change in government. Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson told ABC’s Jonathan Karl that the attack on Iran was “absolutely disgusting and evil.” Former Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene took to X to blast the president, accusing him of abandoning his “America First” principles.

The Generals Said No but Trump Was Bored of Peace

(Daily Beast) The Venezuela raid was well planned, limited in scope, and a clear military success, just the kind of stunt Trump and the former Fox News host who serves as his “Secretary of War” needed to fire up the troops in their new anti-woke army. But Iran is a whole different matter. There’s a reason why, as Trump put it, the Iranian regime has been able to chant “Death to America” for the past 47 years as it targeted American forces and interests in the region through its network of terror groups and proxy militias.

Sen. Kaine: "Is he too mentally incapacitated to realize....?"

(Sen. Tim Kaine) “Has President Trump learned nothing from decades of U.S. meddling in Iran and forever wars in the Middle East? Is he too mentally incapacitated to realize that we had a diplomatic agreement with Iran that was keeping its nuclear program in check, until he ripped it up during his first term? For months, I have raised hell about the fact that the American people want lower prices, not more war—especially wars that aren’t authorized by Congress, as required by the Constitution, and don’t have a clear objective. These strikes are a colossal mistake, and I pray they do not cost our sons and daughters in uniform and at embassies throughout the region their lives."

'Panic' at CNN as Trump and His Buddies Plot to Turn Network MAGA

(Daily Beast) “We are doomed,” one staffer told Status. “We are f---ed,” said another. “Everybody is reeling about the obvious things,” said a third staffer, with the network looking set to get the Bari Weiss treatment. Weiss, the CBS News editor-in-chief, has steered that network into Trump-friendly territory since taking over late last year.
