🏨 80% of hotels across the eleven US host cities are reporting bookings below forecast.
⚽ FIFA quietly cancelled thousands of reserved hotel rooms, leaving local businesses exposed after months of inflated expectations.
🚧 The fan experience is increasingly defined by security perimeters, border friction, closed streets, and visible political tension.
🇺🇸 The US won its opening match, but even that victory sits inside a wider atmosphere of organisational dysfunction.
📉 FIFA projected 1.24 million international visitors and $30.5 billion in economic impact numbers now looking increasingly unrealistic.
🌍 Visa restrictions, anti-US sentiment, ICE enforcement, and falling tourism are suppressing demand from the very markets expected to fill stadiums.
⚠️ The prediction: the US economic impact comes in at less than half of FIFAs projection, with international attendance falling well below forecast.

(27,684 posts)America is now a pariah nation under his reign of terror. They see the ICE raids on innocent people and hear about the concentration camps that are committing crimes against humanity. Would you come if you were from another country? And if you werent Anglo Saxon white?

(6,700 posts)Last night's late match was only shown on Telemundo, with Fox not covering.
Today, Telemundo is showing four matches, and Fox is only showing the first two. I just happen to have a local channel that broadcasts Telemundo, but I bet some fans don't.
Justice matters.

(53,489 posts)I blame this 100 percent on FIFA's pricing policies. When FIFA comes in and says, "we'd like you to pay $1500 for a stadium ticket, $20 for a cup of draft Budweiser, $12 for a hamburger, $300 to park your rental car, and $700 per night for a hotel room that costs $250 most of the time, and in exchange we'll let you watch a game against two teams for whom the only possibility of advancing to the knockout rounds is for ICE to deport the other two teams in their group" it tends to make people think watching the matches at a sports bar is a better idea.
