(1,271 posts)... ergo, she'll never be elected President. She's fine in the role and office that she currently occupies. We need to focus our energies and money on more serious and more electable contenders.

(1,271 posts)And, sadly, if enough people end up being convinced and sold a bill of goods that she is somehow "destined" to "save the party" because of her orator skills and sincerity... in the end, when she does not win the nomination... those folks will (if history is any indicator) want to "punish" the party, or they'll just be so disillusioned that they do not show up at all. Sound familiar? We need to nominate someone who can win more hearts and votes than just the New England activists and coastal liberals. Elections are national, she she does not have the ability to attract enough votes (nationally) to win a nomination or a national election. Sorry, I'm just being real here. Leave her where she is. Let her make a good case for our party's EVENTUAL actual nominee. I can go for that. I hope you can too.

(40,965 posts)I do see a lot of advantages to her candidacy though. There isnt a conventional candidate one could name that would generate nearly as much enthusiasm and her presence would force all competitors to raise their communications and social media games. The best candidate will win.
One thing I will personally avoid is to say the candidate must be this or that. Weve lost two of the last three elections to a severely deformed person. I think we should all be humble about what may or may not work in 2028.

(1,271 posts)... to provide support to our party's eventual nominee. I think it's important to realize that "humble" and "realistic" are not synonyms. We do not need a "social media" star. We need strong leadership and someone who can heal and unite. We need experience beyond her limited experience and record. We need someone who can attract national support, not just activist support. I promise you that she is not the candidate that swing state voters are interested in... even actual Democrats in swing states would not give her enough votes to become our party's nominee. I'm just giving you a realistic assessment, here. It's pure fantasy to try and "invent" reasons that she would win the nomination or bring home the White House. It won't happen. It's willful blindness to claim that the Democrats have no-other-candidate who can generate enthusiasm. Pure nonsense.

(114 posts)Compare that to the grifter in the White House who rarely makes any sense and speaks at a 5 year old level.
Unfortunately there's too much racism and sexism in America for AOC to be elected but a high level cabinet position would be well-deserved.
