What Do Trump's Lawsuits Against News Orgs. Mean for the Future of the Press? - Amanpour and Company PBS

In the United States, the press is under legal assault from incoming President Donald Trump. He is suing The Des Moines Register newspaper over its coverage of polling which showed Kamala Harris ahead in Iowa days before the election. ABC News has agreed to a $15 million settlement with Trump over a defamation suit.

This is happening in America, a country that provides constitutional protections for press freedom. Other democracies around the world do not, and the press is under attack in many of these countries as well. Marty Baron, former Executive Editor of The Washington Post, joins the show from Massachusetts to discuss. - Originally aired on December 17, 2024.
