(62,325 posts)to legislate, something Fast Track prevents them from doing. THEY are supposed to write and discuss bills that will affect the people they represent.
That we have accepted that many of our bills are not written by Congress, but by Special Interest Groups, see HC bill eg, shows how far we are from being a democracy.
So regardless of what is in the TPP, the very fact it was not even seen by Congress until recently and only after huge opposition from the public, nor are they really allowed to study it with all the restrictions placed on them, should be ENOUGH to just say 'no'.
If they pass the fast tracking of this bill, then Obama will have managed to do what even Bush failed to do in 2007.
Wall St is going to love him ....
The people, well we'll have to wait a few years to find out how it affects their lives.
Blind faith is so dangersous, even on a personal level. On a national level, it should never even be considered in a democracy.
