WNBA owners ratify landmark 7-year CBA, setting up a sprint to the May 8 regular-season start

NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA Board of Governors unanimously ratified the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement on Tuesday.

Their vote came a day after the players also unanimously approved the seven-year CBA, which will begin this season and run through 2032. It represents a landmark labor deal for the WNBA and its players.

“This marks the beginning of a bold new era of the WNBA — one made possible by the passion and dedication of the players, team owners, fans, investors, partners and the entire WNBA family,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said. “We remain focused on building on the unprecedented momentum around the league and preparing for our milestone 30th season, tipping off in May.”

Lawyers on both sides are writing up the long form of the new agreement, which should be done soon.

I hope these women stop dogging Caitlin Clark and maybe say "Thank You" to her from time to time. Maybe it isn't fair, but the fact is none of this happens without Clark. There have been many talented players over the years, but they were all playing to 2500 people in the stands.

That changed literally overnight with Clark. Suddenly arenas were full and teams rushed to book Fever games in larger arenas. And when they did that, advertisers got more interested, leading to more TV coverage. And then, people discovered some of the games were actually entertaining, even if Clark wasn't in the house.

From there, they started chartering air flight and upgrading training facilities. None of that happened before Clark. Clark didn't need the CBA. She is making millions from endorsements. But she stood with the players to get this deal done. Let's hope those women learned something in the process.

The Pacers were in the playoffs so the Fever were able to piggyback off the account.

The Fever have played in the same venue as the Pacers for their entire dime (26 years). They didn't need to change venues when Clark came along. It is the OTHER teams that switched their Fever games to bigger arenas.

None of this change would be happening today without Clark. That's a fact. It didn't happen for 25 years with all sorts of talented players. Clark was treated by the media as a phenom. You can certainly argue that it wasn't fair or justified. But you can't deny that is exactly what happened.

And there was enormous jealousy from other players who thought they should get the same attention. And maybe they were right, but it doesn't matter. The world runs on hype, not on logic. This Clark hype is giving about 200 women a big, big pay increase. They should at least thank the lady rather than trying to put her in the hospital every game.
