Hannah Hidalgo Becomes Fastest Notre Dame Player To 1,000 Points As Irish Cruise To Win At Syracuse
Syracuse, NY - When Hannah Hidalgo, Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron are all on at the same time Notre Dame is nearly impossible to stop. Syracuse found that out the hard way Sunday afternoon as the Fighting Irish (7-2, 1-0 ACC) shook off a slow start to run away with an ACC-opening 93-62 win over the Orange (4-6, 0-1).
Hidalgo finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Her only 3-pointer of the game came in the third quarter and pushed her over the 1,000-point mark in her career. The sophomore accomplished the feat in a program record 44 games. The previous record was 60 games by Beth Morgan in the 1993-1994 season.
Notre Dame started slowly by committing nine turnovers in the first quarter and led 21-20 after the games first 10 minutes. They shot 15 of 35 in the first half and turned the ball over just twice in the second quarter to take a 36-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Citron scored 19 of her game and season-high 25 points in the second half. She made 4 of 5 from 3-point range and hit all four of her shots from the field to score 11 of her points in the fourth quarter alone.
