USA Women's Basketball Blows Out Australia, On Cusp of Eighth Straight Gold Medal

New York Liberty power forward Breanna Stewart and Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson, the WNBA's two most recent MVPs, have transitioned from archrivals on the court in their league to the two best players on Team USA.

On Friday, the U.S. essentially led Team Australia wire-to-wire in their semifinal matchup at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The final tally: was 85-64. Team USA has now 60 straight games in Olympic play, and will advance to the gold medal game on Sunday, with its opponent yet to be determined. The club has won seven straight gold medals in Olympic play.

Stewart, who was the team's MVP during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, led the club again Friday with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field (1-of-2 from beyond the arc) and 3-of-3 shooting from the foul line, along with six points, five assists, and one steal. Wilson, for her part, notched 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, eight boards, four blocks, two steals and an assist.

Stewart, 29, is a two-time WNBA champion and Finals MVP, a two-time league MVP, a six-time All-Star, a six-time All-WNBA teamer, a five-time All-Defensive Teamer, and already a two-time gold medalist.
