3 Free Agents the Indiana Fever MUST SIGN in 2025

Satou Sabally

The Indiana Fever could potentially go after a big-name free agent like Satou Sabally. Her contract with the Dallas Wings will be up for the 2025 season, leaving her to the free agency market. Currently, the Dallas Wings have their own predicament with Natasha Howard and possibly Arike Ogunbowale contract wise. Ogunbowale will be expecting an extension during or before the 2025 season starts, as that will be the final year on her contract, and Spotrac predicts for the 2025 season, the Wings will have a remaining $537,554. Currently, Howard is making $234,350 and Sabally is making $195,000 for this 2024 season. Ogunbowale is making $241,984 for this current season and will make $249,032 for the 2025 season. This leaves hardly any wiggle room for the Dallas Wings to retain both Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally if they wish to keep Arike Ogunbowale in their future as well. This leaves the Indiana Fever, who would be a great fit for Sabally to sign in 2025. The Fever are expected to have $657,639 cap space for the 2025 season, with two guards and a center on expiring contracts, the Fever’s main goal is to look at who is replaceable. Already starting with who is not replaceable, Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, this leaves a starting position of 3 or 4 available for potential upgrades.

Sophia Cunningham

The Fever already have two guards whose contracts will be expiring for the 2025 season, Kelsey Mitchell and Erica Wheeler. It is most vital that the Fever try to retain Mitchell, who has had a productive season so far. If the Fever do happen to lose Kelsey Mitchell to free agency, Sophia Cunningham would be an excellent replacement. An underrated player who can shoot at every level and consistently play defense is what the Indiana Fever need regardless. The Fever may not be able to keep Mitchell, so to prepare for that scenario Cunningham would be able to bring more at a defensive viewpoint, while at the same time bringing at least a solid offensive production style. Looking at the two point wise, Mitchell does bring more points but can be a liability at 5 ‘8 in comparison to Cunningham’s 6’ 1. The Fever struggle big time defensively and having a guard who can consistently play defense and be able to lock down their matchup or have a better chance on a switch is vital to Indiana.

Odyssey Sims

As mentioned above, the Indiana Fever have two guards potentially leaving. One being Erica Wheeler who comes off the bench. Odyssey Sims who has been with Dallas since June is on a hardship contract due to all the injuries the Wings have. Under the assumption another team doesn’t try and sign Sims first, she could be a great rotational player on the bench for Caitlin Clark or the other potential guard. Sims could slide right in and take over that “veteran guard role,” which was occupied by Wheeler. Sims has proven she is still a great player with her time with the Wings so far, once the hardship contract ends, it’s the assumption on how Dallas will go forward and if any other team will pick her up. In a perfect world, the Indiana Fever should go after her to replace Erica Wheeler for the 2025 season.
