I know it's been a while but when did the "carrying" call disappear...

in the NBA? I'm watching the Sixers v Hawks game and Tray Young just did crossover dribbles with both hands UNDER the ball...not on the side but all the way under.

Anybody can do a devastating cross-over if you can carry the ball like that.

And I'm curious as to how blatant it's gotten so please, no "get off my lawn" jokes.

I am not much of a pro Bball fan, but do watch the playoffs.
I would like to say that I first noticed it @ 10 years ago. Bet it has been longer than that.

Not called very often in college either.

And yes, it's egregious. BUT, tbh, it leads to more scoring and more exciting plays so, it's not going away.

Players used to not be able to get away with it either.

they stopped enforcing it mostly, if it's a sure basket.

enforcing palming the ball doesn't get called a lot, seems like its been a while since refs called it.

I've seen people go half court to dunk on a single bounce. Sure they have massive strides, but still. Easily 3 steps between bounces.

No ref wants to be the jerk who calls back a spectacular dunk no matter how blatant i guess.

He took it to absurd level and got away with until late in his career. When other players saw that the officials weren’t going to enforce the carry rule, it became widespread.

Btw Tim Hardaway had a super crossover without carrying the ball.

They just quit calling traveling some years ago in the NBA. I don’t watch it but have seen example after example displayed on various shows.

You wonder how many more points old stars might have scored if dribbling was optional back then.

Somewhere along the line some NBA big wig must have ordered refs to not ruin highlight dunks just because the player ran with the ball.

I played some Women’s Basketball along the way we always had to dribble.
