Related: About this forumNew blood work: A1c is . . .
My new A1c is 6.5, one-tenth higher than the previous. Just one-tenth; still I'm unhappy - probably because I gave up Coca-Cola about six weeks ago. Maybe that's not enough time for the benefit of reducing sugar to show up.
I don't think the surgeon will have a problem with the higher number. Cross your fingers. I'll find out in a few days. Surgery's on the 23rd.

(838 posts)Fighting the A1c is tough and can be frustrating. Giving up Coke was a major step! My blood sugar goes up when I am in pain or anxious so sometimes it isn't what you ate. Hope your recovery from surgery goes well. Fingers 🤞

(1,470 posts)I didn't know anxiety (and probably other states) could affect blood sugar. Thanks for the info, Prudence. 😎

(1,470 posts)This was a couple of months ago. That surgery went well. The next is coming up on June 7 - a shoulder replacement. Lord, how I am dreading this. (My A1c is 5.9.

(863 posts)6 months without a high sugar drink like coke is enough to clear that effect
even diet coke effects me a little but i do drink 1 or 2 a day.
if you eat reasonably and test your blood glucose levels in range, you should be good to go.
on edit just read that last post. glad everything went well, there have been times i might kill for a 5.9.

(1,470 posts)"might kill for a 5.9" -- I've felt that way often.
Once again, I do need to cut down on Coke. I mean seriously. I drink 4-6 cans per day. It's a miracle my A1C isn't over seven or eight.

(863 posts)taken about 10 years ago with my foot hot swollen and red, was over 13. talk about scared.
i've lost over 100 lbs since then (the #1 way to control diabetes is to lose weight) and have generally got the a1c in the 5.5 range.
nice talking with you, not heidi.
