nra gunnut tom selleck, aka water thief
july 9, 2015: Hollywood celebrity and NRA gun nut Tom Selleck has been accused in a lawsuit of stealing thousands of gallons of water from a public fire hydrant and bringing it to his California ranch. California has been in a major drought for four years.
According to the Calleguas Municipal Water District in Ventura County, Selleck loaded a tanker truck with water more than a dozen times to use for his 60-acre Westlake Village ranch. A private investigator hired by the Calleguas district says Selleck has been stealing water in this manner for at least two years.
Different areas in California have varying water usage caps as ordered by the California state government. Some must cut water use by 25 percent. Ventura County, where Sellecks ranch is located, must cut back its use by 36 percent. That mandatory cutback was ordered in 2013.
The district of Calleguas sent several cease-and-desist letters to Selleck, urging him to stop stealing the water. CBS News noted that Sellecks tanker truck was spotted in March while it was filling up at a fire hydrant. The districts lawsuit doesnt detail exactly how much water was taken by Selleck.
Sellecks audacity and sense of entitlement is unfathomable. As a member on the NRAs board of directors, Selleck shares company with the likes of Ted Nugent. In that spirit, he believes that the government cant regulate what he consumes, even when others are going without

Oh well, remember now colleagues & readers, he's innocent until prove guilty. Well, I should add, of cases prosecuted 71% result in guilty verdicts, so jimmy's corollary: 'innocent until proven guilty, but probably guilty!'
addendum: jan 2013: MSNBCs Lawrence ODonnell went all the way back to a 1999 episode of The Daily Show to gain inspiration for his Rewrite segment last night. The subject was Tom Selleck, who became the poster boy for the NRA by appearing in an ad for the organization just one month before the Columbine shooting in which he declared I am the NRA.
In another blast from the past, ODonnell showed a clip from the first Rosie ODonnell-hosted national television show. In a lengthy clip from The Rosie ODonnell Show, Selleck defended the NRA from accusations that they were failing to protect children from guns. After noting that 14 years later, Selleck is now on the board of the NRA, ODonnell declared that the time has come to do what Rosie ODonnell refused to do 14 years agoquestion Tom Sellecks humanity.

(23,664 posts)Did he use a gun to steal the water? Of course he didn't, so why confuse a legitimate criticism of the man (he is accused of the theft of water and is apparently guilty, since his attorney has agreed to compensation to the water district for the stolen water) with the fact that he is an advocate for the 2nd Amendment?
Look, I have absolutely no respect for Selleck. He's a shitty actor and obviously an entitled prick who believed he was above the laws that everybody else had to obey. He should be facing criminal charges but won't, probably because he is asshole buddies with the local law enforcement community.
But all that has fuck all to do with his affiliation with the NRA.
Oh, and you make it sound like Selleck personally drove the water truck up to the hydrant and filled it up. I don't think even the water district has said that. He's a Hollywood big shot so he wouldn't get his hands dirty, he had his people do it for him.

Huh? he either was or is on the NRA board of directors, did you miss that part? I indeed find it repulsive that the NRA allows such rightwing cretins as ted nugent & tom selleck to be on their board of directors the way they behave, where other people sitting on more reputable organizations board's would most likely be dismissed for such behavior.
He evidently was asked to cease & desist yet did not. You don't think that's just cause for dismissing a person from a high ranking position?
Sit down, read it again, & rethink your hot headed position.

*I* made it sound that way to you? I simply posted the article, & I didn't get that impression at all. I figured all the while that selleck did not personally get the water, sent lackeys to green up his lawns, but he has to be the 'brains' (cough) in the outfit.

(23,664 posts)You hate the guy because he is a member of the NRA board of directors. I get that.
In my humble opinion that is not only hot headed but irrational.
Did the NRA make him steal that water? I don't think so. I'm not a big fan of the NRA, but I doubt that they encourage their directors to steal water.
I don't think I need to rethink anything. You hate the NRA so anybody associated with it is a piece of shit. And I think that Selleck doesn't need the NRA, he is perfectly capable of being a piece of shit on his own.

You ranted (wtf, f--- all), I did not.

You reach a conclusion based upon your faulty premise. I don't hate selleck, I just don't give a whit about him & think he's a right wing looney. I'm sure he's done some nicey nicey goody goody things, but to support the far right gun position is close to the opposite, in my book.
You yourself don't think much of selleck either: I think that Selleck doesn't need the NRA, he is perfectly capable of being a piece of shit on his own.

Specious. They condone a lot of vulgar mischief amongst their own.
In part I wanted to enjoy a bit of schadenfreude at selleck's expense.

You reached another faulty conclusion, but at least your premise was right this time.
Nope, just most of those in the upper management, including wayne lapierre-head, ted, & now water boy tom. I've frequently explained in the past that most nra members are OK, law abiding citz & gun owners & all that, either traditional members, some from when it was benign from the early 70's. Maybe a quarter are borderline, then there is surely a gunnutted segment (10 - 25%) that I would consider on the same plane as the upper management cretins.

(2,718 posts)You ready for this? ready for this? I agree with what Tulare tom said on your thread, politicaverse!
Tulare tom post #21: My conclusion is that no "theft" of water actually occurred, but Selleck's side deal with the construction company is questionable given that he is not a city resident. I don't think a crime was committed, but in a drought, it sort of smacks of favoritism for a celebrity to buy scarce water that city residents might need.
Selleck cuts a side deal with the construction company to buy water even though he doesn't actually live inside the city limits. Water district notices the construction company's truck filling up at the city fire hydrant and tails it to Sellecks property outside the city, not realizing that the city has furnished water to the construction company which then sold it to Selleck.
as well as david's post 39: I agree it is hypocritical of Selleck to take so much water when everyone else is being rationed (see I have money, I'm above the law). The construction company was given the rights for a purpose and sold the rights for another. If people should have a beef with anyone, it should be with the construction company (not that I'd defend Selleck because he's still a GOP asshole). It very well could be a case of he knew someone at the construction company. The city should revoke the construction companies right to use the water from the hydrant at the very least. I'd like to see them get fined as well. It still does go to show how money can buy anything in the US, at least for those who have it.
Thanks tho, for the heads up, politicaverse.
