A Tale of Two Nine Year Olds

I thought this posed some interesting philosophical questions to debate. I thought about taking this to GD but it won't get the traction that it may here. And it's too important to see it just fall off the page because I'm not one of the cool kids posting it.

Where were the parents at the shooting range?
Where is reasonable child care for working single parents?
Where was neighborhood watch when the laptop was stolen?
Where was the neighbor/cousin/friend who could be keeping an eye on the child of the single parent?
Where are we as a culture where kids are not safe in a park?

Just a few. I will stop now. There are many more.

1. The parents were filming the kid learning to fire an Uzi. That is where the video that was on the news came from.

4. From the way the article describes it, there were typically other neighborhood parents at the park. Possibly it was so typical that it never occurred to the mom to formally arrange for one of them to keep tabs on her kid.

Thank you for posting it, it is an important contrast to consider.
