Could we possibly bend the rules and let Kozar stay?

This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the DU Community Help forum).

I read Kozar's goodbye this Christmas morning, then checked his profile and saw that he's had five posts hidden in the last 90 days.

Earl, I appreciate that you've already bent the rules a little to allow him to say goodbye before having his posting privileges revoked. But I'm hoping you'd be willing to bend those rules even more. Break them, even, for this case? I admit, I write this without seeing what Kozar posted that got hidden.

To anyone else reading this post who, like me, thinks Kozar brings value to DU and--even more importantly--thinks DU brings enormous value to Kozar--and would like him to stay, could you please Rec this post?

Kozar has been through so much: first, the loss of his wife, then, this year, the loss of his severely disabled daughter, who meant the world to him. Kozar also has severe health problems. DU members look out for him when he's having a health emergency. At least one DUer knows his address and has called local authorities to send an ambulance when he's posted about having scary symptoms.

Sometimes Kozar does post things that violate our TOS. I don't doubt that a jury made the right call. But sometimes you have to meet people where they are. Sometimes you have to accommodate them for the greater good. I don't think DU, or Kozar, or the world, is better off with Kozar being banned.

Any chance we can show Kozar some Christmas mercy?

I see it to be reasonable that we as a group appeal the jury decisions of the 5 posts. FarPoint 11 hrs ago #1

Appeals are meant to render a more detailed review like from Administration... Kozar may of felt shocked, depressed, saddened with the jury ruling on the posts of question and didn't feel " worthy" to appeal at that time...maybe?

Yes, we can not always be rigid and black and white with our peers here at DU.... In this crummy tRump fog of the upside down...our sensitivity gets lost...

Have the administrators review is my opinion.

And 5 hides.

Reading Koz's post -- and considering that his status is "active" despite 5 hides -- my interpretation is that EarlG overrode the software's automatic 5 hides = FFR status, and I think it was Koz's decision just to "quietly go away".

I hadn't considered that possibility.

Kozar, if that's the case, I hope you know how much we appreciate your presence.

Why would anyone here even alert on Kozar's threads?
I've always assumed everyone here knows he's been going through some heavy issues.

Just leave the guy alone and let him vent.

But considering the bereavement and health issues, added to the emotional strain we are all dealing with these days, I'd vote for allowing him to stay.

I don't really understand the ignore feature but couldn't those offended by his posts use that feature while those of us who like to know how he's doing could still hear from him?

Besides, we need to hear how LilGlad is getting on, no?

Please do not use this forum for a public discussion of whether we should bring people back or not. It simply makes things far more complicated than they need to be.

In this case I allowed kozar back in, yes, because he wrote and asked, and it was Christmas Eve. After I did that, he used the opportunity to post a public “I’m leaving” thread, while giving the appearance that it was because of something I did. So I’m here to clear that up now. See my response in this thread.

As of right now, kozar’s account is active. If he wants to leave, that’s fine, and if he wants to stay, that’s fine. Provided he refrains from getting more posts removed by personally attacking people of course. As for me, I’d prefer to be left out of this drama, especially since it’s Christmas Day, so I’m going to lock this thread as well, thanks.
