Jameis Winston rape accuser files lawsuit
ORLANDO (RNN) - The woman who accused former Florida State football star Jameis Winston of rape filed a lawsuit against him Thursday in a Florida circuit court.
The accuser, a former student at Florida State, alleged the incident happened in December 2012. Winston is accused of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment and intentional infliction. The woman also claims emotional distress from forcible rape and is seeking more than $15,000 in damages. The Tampa Bay Times first reported the story.
Reports of the alleged incident originally surfaced prior to the Seminoles' 2013 football season. The Florida state attorney announced in December 2013 he did not find sufficient evidence to press charges, and Winston was also cleared in a student conduct hearing in December 2014.
"Today, a very brave young woman filed her lawsuit against Jameis Winston for the sexual battery that she reported to police in December 2012," the accuser's attorney, John Clune, said in a statement. "Over the past two years, this survivor of sexual violence has had to endure a delinquent police investigation, a hostile FSU athletic department and Mr. Winston's bullying lawyer. But the more these forces sought to silence her, the more determined she has become to step forward and hold Jameis Winston accountable for his actions.

good for her. she has the most important support, from her family and her own convictions. the strength within to not feel shame and humiliation, but to time and time again demand this rape be addressed.
