Related: About this forumI despise the argument against abortion claiming that contraception makes it obsolete.
Because it is still moralizing abortion. It's still making the argument that abortion should become nonexistent if contraception is totally accessible.
That's bullshit. If a woman has complete access to birth control, chooses not to use it, becomes pregnant, doesn't use Plan B and then has an abortion, it's none of your fucking business. It's not your concern. It's not your place to tell her that she chose the non-ideal option because idealizing contraception and abortion is a moralization. Abortion is a medical procedure and nothing more. The only issue that should matter is whether or not it might compromise the health of the woman seeking the treatment. Any other consideration is an undue imposition of moral belief.
People need to stop justifying their semi latent anti-choice views in liberal circles. It pisses me the hell off.

(4,035 posts)Right now I am not currently sexually active, so I am not on oral contraceptives. Just because it is totally accessible doesn't mean that all women are using it all the time, and that it is infallible. Women still get pregnant even using two or more different contraceptive methods, because none of them are 100% secure. That means that the need for abortions will never be non-existent, and therefore that abortion must never be restricted.

(10,063 posts)to what you've said, and with which I agree completley, there's the fact that no contraception is 100% effective.
And thank you for using the more accurate anti-choice, rather than "pro-life."

(12,769 posts)a woman's right to abortion are usually the same that oppose her right to contraception at all.
Until they can guarantee that every woman (and man) has complete and free access to a 100% pregnancy proof contraception and are willing to to ensure that every child born will be guaranteed equal opportunity in life, they should have no valid argument.

(15,506 posts)concentration on the unborn fetus as opposed to the rights and responsibilities related to a living child also shows their hypocrisy.

(53,431 posts)An abortion is a medical procedure. It is safe, but as with any medical procedure, I think if it can be avoided it should.
I certainly have no moral objection to having a tooth pulled, but there is the slight risk of infection or complication. So if flossing prevents its necessity, let's give the flossing a go.
If a woman wants to use contraception and can't afford it or doesn't have access to it, and then gets pregnant and needs an abortion, I think that is a less desirable outcome than if she wanted the contraception, had access to it, took it, and never got pregnant in the first place.

(12,769 posts)And where in your reasoning does the male responsibility lie.
We will never know all the why's and wherefore's of a sexual liaison (at least we shouldn't) so why even try to second guess it.
