(25,676 posts)1. I was stationed in Japan for 2 years, in the late 1970s...
during my second tour of duty with th Air Force nurse corps. We could see Mt. Fuji from the base, and I think it is one of the most spectacular sights on the planet.
Tried climbing it once, and got as far as station 8 before we had to turn back because of rain and lightning. Going down was harder on the muscles than going up, and my quads were sore for at least a week. I still have my Fuji stick.
I acquired a number of water color and wood block pieces while I was there, and they are among my most treasured possessions.
