It is with great sadness that i say we lost our dad yesterday. He had been in

a nursing home for 7 years and it was harder and harder for him to enjoy life despite the excellent care. Then a pnumomnia came along. He went pretty quick but not before we got to each spend some time with him, alone and together. A part of me wishes he had been more conscious, but that is just me being selfish. He was a gentle bear of a man, at home building rock gardens without any cement that have lasted 50 years or at cocktail parties in a politiical neighborhood. He was a wonderful father. He was so much fun. His greatest outside interest was liberal politics and we all inherited that from him. I will miss him but he is with mom again, the ancestors and many of his great friends. My heart is broken tonight but I know his memory will always be a blessing.

"His memory will always be a blessing."

That phrase alone is a testament to the man he was, and the man whose guiding spirit will be with you forever.

Peace be with your dad tonight, my friend - and with you as well.

And I told you that Ottawa was also my Dad's favorite destination in this hemisphere, he and my mother visited numerous times - since he could get there by car, no plane required. He even took friends from overseas to visit since he thought they'd enjoy it.

I've been there and I can't tell you that it's easy to get used to, I still think of my Dad so often, still have things I need to ask him. But your Dad sounds like a wonderful guy and father and you have siblings - and it sure sounds like you have such positive memories. His was a life well lived and no one can ask for more than that...

The passing of a parent is a major change regardless of the kind of relationship shared. The good part is that you have fond memories of your dad and that will keep him with your for the rest of your days.

A good liberal and a good man, a life well-lived, and well-loved.
“Excellent care” at a nursing home is unusual from what I’ve found, good to know he had that.
Wishing you comfort in your path ahead.
