Bereavement
Related: About this forumMy son's cat died in my grandson's arms.
We suspect he got into some rat poison somehow. He couldn't have eaten that many poisoned rats to do this. Unless he was stuck in a garage and that was all there was to eat. He had a little blood coming from his one nostril and his breathing was labored. It was sad, but we were grieving together until grandson was so upset that everything is "SO EXPENSIVE" now.
I said it has been that way for a long time. I know it to be true. Maybe 15-20 years ago I was giving another cat fluids subcutaneously for an illness we weren't certain of its origin because the bill would have been over four thousand to do all the tests and with no guarantee of prolonging her life.
Yesterday we went to the emergency vet after the cat appeared under my husband's car. He had gotten out and was missing for 6 days. The only thing the vet diagnosed initially was dehydration and gave him fluids and the option of 1-2 days of hospitilization to the tune of three to five thousand dollars. We got the fluid hydration and antinaussea shot and brought him home with the hope of going to the regular vet and getting a fuller diagnostic at non-emergency rates.
At least we had him home and gave him lots of love. He passed around 2 am, but woke up my son and grandson with some awful howls and then it was over.
I got up and was doing my best to be supportive, but then the poison my son planted in my grandson came out the younger's mouth, "NO IT'S ONLY BEEN THIS EXPENSIVE SINCE 2020 WHEN BIDEN TOOK OVER"
I said "NO IT'S BEEN THIS WAY A LONG TIME" he insisted and I lost it and said, "FUCK YOUR HEAD" and my son got all mad at me for "MAKING IT POLITICAL" and giving the kid a ration during his time of grief. I told him, "NO. I DID NOT MAKE IT POLITICAL. HE DID WHEN HE STARTED BLAMING BIDEN."
FOR GOD'S SAKE. In history, Biden will show up as one of the best if not the best President's ever for putting up with all this crap and STILL doing his job daily, but the MAGA masses are being taught to blame him for everything.

(5,126 posts)I apologized this morning.
Grandson actually apologized last night for making it political.
His Dad, my Son was the as*hat in chief defending his cub.
I can understand that too. I taught him. LOL.

(5,126 posts)I thought he might still be alive because even when he was still and his pupils non-responsive to light, I swear when I pet him I felt a purr.
After the emergency vet visit, we brought him home and he got up on the mantle to his favorite perch and we pet him, he purred. We all got to give him lots of love.
We had given him up for dead because he'd been gone for 6 days.

(5,126 posts)During grief people will have these awful arguments. No one is in their full mind at the moment.
The grief is over powering for fur baby family.

(5,126 posts)Thanks. I just don't know how I went wrong.
I taught my son to think for himself, so he blows ME OFF as he needs to have his OWN opinion.
THEN he swallows the QAnon crap hook, line and sinker.

(5,126 posts)Son and Grandson live with me, so to manage a peaceful existence, we have arrived at NO POLITICS discussed.
Grandson was in his grief and I guess it's understandable that he wanted to be rich and able to afford extensive treatment for the cat because he loved that cat SO MUCH. I got that part. Totally got that part.
Then he went into angry mode. Why does it have to be so expensive NOW?!
But told him it has been expensive like that for a long time, he said, "NO, only since 2020 when Biden took office"
I lost it. I will apologize for how I said it, but I am going to print out facts and figures for both of them and impress upon them that needing to BLAME someone for things does NOT SOLVE anything.
That my son teaching his son to automatically reach for political bias to soothe his grief is indoctrination, not education.
The MAGAs are constantly giving their "flock" reasons to be upset and painting a target on the DEMS.

(14,949 posts)cat. So difficult and sad to experience.
Emergency vets have always been very expensive. We took one of our cats to an emergency vet in the winter of 2016 and it was about two thousand or more dollars. Also took her to our regular vet at the same time to continue her care. She seemed better for a time, but by the end of April she passed away.

(5,126 posts)And I know vets and emergency services have always been expensive.
Pet insurance wasn't a thing until recently. Take your pet in, pay to take him home.
And medical bills for people have bankrupted so many too.
