Bereavement
Related: About this forumMy mum passed away today.
I'm bewildered, overwhelmed, depressed and numb, confused and uncertain.
I'm going to leave this here with my DU family and go to bed. It has been a long day.
Thank you for being here.
I'm going to need some help over the next few days and DU has been my rock since shrub stole the election.
I love you guys.

(24,363 posts)There’s no preparation for this loss. My folks have been gone for many years and while I miss them terribly, it does get easier with time. I’m thinking of you and holding you and yours in my heart.

(26,485 posts)...hole. They loved us before they knew us.
My mom’s spirit was liberated on Dec 12, 2020, and the permanence of this is only now feeling real. She made it to 98, and was doing well until the last 3 weeks, when she got the covid virus.
When someone gets to 98, it’s hard to feel cheated, but still...

(4,158 posts)back in 1979. The overwhelming feeling I remember having that day was "Why are there commercials on TV right now? Why is someone trying to sell me cereal? Don't they know my mom just died?"
It wasn't rational, but it was very strong.
Sending love and strength your way. Take care.

(770 posts)That is going to be very hard for a while. Give yourself time to feel however you are feeling. Your mom stays with you always, even though she has passed away. Would it work for you to sit down and write and write about your mom?

(3,360 posts)is so strange. We’ve known them our entire lives, it’s hard to imagine existing in the world without them in it. Our parents are eternal, invincible, the most constant presence we’ve known. Sending prayers for comfort for your family, may you find solace in your memories.

(724 posts)I was 14 when I lost my parents and I still miss them. It does get better though.
Be kind to yourself. I have always found that going for a walk is the best way to cope. Talking to people who understand also helps, though animals are sometimes more understanding than people.
I guess the good part is that we loved them enough that losing them is painful.
