CASPER, Wyo. Casper and Natrona County residents should prepare for a volatile weather week as a major pattern shift brings the hottest temperatures of the year so far, alongside critical fire danger and impending high winds.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, Saturday will mark the warmest day of 2026 for most of Wyoming. Casper is expected to see mostly sunny skies with a high temperature soaring to near 93 degrees. While a southwest wind at 515 mph will provide some movement, gusts could reach as high as 25 mph by the afternoon.
The extreme heat combined with an incoming low-pressure system is creating significant safety concerns for central Wyoming. Forecasters warn that a very dry air mass moving into the region will cause relative humidity levels to crash into the single digits, bottoming out between 8% and 10% across lower elevations. The combination of intense heat, critically low humidity and statewide wind gusts between 35 and 50 mph has prompted elevated to critical fire weather concerns through Saturday evening. Local officials urge residents to exercise extreme caution with any outdoor activities that could inadvertently spark a wildfire.
