He might consider either if he thinks security forces would defeat any last ditch attempts his followers or possible co-conspiritors might make to take over the government. Timing - early morning January 17.

UPDATE:

I think plans for another attack might be abandoned because of vastly increased security (in particular military firepower in Washington) and a lack of attendance by traitors because of travel restrictions.

The thought of imprisonment could cause him to snap. He might see flight in one way or another to be his only way to avoid a prison cell.
