Southern Baptist Convention membership drops for 14th year in a row

Amid the pandemic, the Southern Baptist Convention lost members for the 14th year in a row.

From 2019 to 2020, the number of Southern Baptists dropped 3% to 14,089,947, the latest Annual Church Profile compiled by Lifeway Christian Resources shows. The convention had more than 16 million members in 2006.

Membership isn't the only statistic that saw a decrease in the first year of the coronavirus outbreak. Average weekly worship attendance, baptisms, congregations and giving also dropped in 2020.

In addition to COVID-19 deaths, some of these metrics likely contributed to the overall drop in the number of Southern Baptists, Scott McConnell, the executive director of Lifeway Research, said in a news release.

Do you know the problem with Baptists? They don't hold them under long enough.

Note: My father was a part-time Southern Baptist minister.

I roll with the punches. I had to deal with an Aggie as my preacher when I was in high school so I can understand why the joke was created.

For the sex workers as their business goes up whenever there's a religious convention like this in town, but then maybe it's worth the loss of income for them to not have old Ronald Reagan speeches memorized for use in foreplay.
