Trump called out by some Christians for using 'Lord's name in vain' at fiery NC rally

Trump called out by some Christians for using ‘Lord’s name in vain’ at fiery NC rally

BY MARK PRICE
JULY 18, 2019 05:42 PM, UPDATED 6 HOURS 35 MINUTES AGO

The controversial “send her back” crowd chant at President Donald Trump’s North Carolina rally may have gotten all the headlines, but some Christians are grumbling over something most of the media completely ignored.

Trump cursed, and it was not just a few vulgarities. He took the Lord’s name in vain.

Twice.

One state senator in West Virginia was so offended that he sent a letter (PDF download of letter at link: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6206369/Sen-Hardesty-Letter-to-Trump.pdf) of rebuke to the White House Thursday, pointing out Trump’s ”terrible choice of words“ during the Greenville rally.

Senator Paul Hardesty of West Virginia’s seventh district — which is coal country — started by admitting he is a conservative Democrat who supports Trump and his pro-coal policies.

...snip...

Other critics of the president’s language have been less polite than Hardesty. A commenter on FreeRepublic.com accused the president of “blaspheming” and “mocking” God and warned of sure retribution.

Snip.

"Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain". Doesn't say anything about serial child abuse and humanitarian atrocities, so those must be OK.

(To be clear, as an atheist, I find much of what supposed "Christians" do and advocate to be wholly antithetical to what they profess to believe.)

Far more than they care about the gospel. They talk a good game about Jesus but they prefer the parts of the bible which aligns with their fake moral superiority. They claim the bible is to be taken word for word because it was written by God but not one of those assholes keep kosher. They judge everyone but when you point out that the bible states only God can judge they claim they are witnessing.

These people believe in the rapture which did not exist before 1830.

They are complete whacknjobs. All of them.

to a former escort/nude "model", many affairs, raping young girls along with pedophile Epstein those are all just fine with the Christians? Draining the US Treasury for golf trips, security protection. Leaving small towns to foot the bill for his racist rallies, that is alright, too? Can these people please point out ONE good attribute this disaster of a president has? What is there to admire about his craven life of using hard working people then refusing to pay his bills? Are those traits the new Christian way of life they aspire to?

really follow the Old Testament for their values and apparently think Jesus Christ was quoted there. They like punishment and judgment and keeping people in their place. Vengeance is high on their list as well.

I have never really believed in a literal Hell.....now I desperately hope there is one.

The conservative Trump supporting DEMOCRAT coal loving clueless ass who wrote this letter . Why do you think the Squad is so popular? Disclosure : I live in West Virginia but not in coal country. They are putting a factory in the Eastern Panhandle that will burn 93 tons of coal per day. We have never had heavy industry like this. Why now ? They are desperately trying to bring back coal. Ironically, this company tries to come off as environmentally friendly. Greenwashing at its best. ROCKWOOL GO BACK TO DENMARK. Very high emissions an hour from DC. This is where people who work in DC metro come to live where houses are affordable, small family farms and nice people. Outdoor recreation opportunities with Harpers Ferry National Park where the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers converge. Charles Town which was founded by the George Washington family. West Virginia officials don’t give a $&@$. They only know coal and gas. Fossil fuels who donate to campaigns for politicians who do their bidding.
