Southern Baptist president says racial insensitivity shows disregard for the gospel

From the article:

Speaking at a black church Sunday (June 9) in a city that is nearly 75% percent African American, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention, J.D. Greear, said white Christians who are racially insensitive are disregarding the gospel.
“I do not need to tell this church the church of the West has had a horrible history of racism,” Greear, a pastor in North Carolina, told Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.
“And there’s one primary reason that that happened: Christians lost touch with the gospel.”...

“The gospel teaches us that there’s only one kind of person: human,” said Greear. “We’ve all got the same problem: sin.”

who came to him for help.

A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly." Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us." He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel." The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said. He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs." "Yes it is, Lord," she said. "Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table." Then Jesus said to her, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed at that moment. Matthew 15 : 22-28 (NIV)

So, first Jesus rudely ignored her, then he compared her to a dog begging for scraps, then he finally helped her, but only after she groveled and debased herself enough to suit him, and agreed with his characterization of her as an unworthy animal.

We should all applaud the SBCs firm progressive position on this subject only 150 years after the 13th Amendment.

and the Northern Baptists didn't; it took the SBC until 1995—130 years after the end of the Civil War—to apologize for it.

"And there’s one primary reason that that happened: Christians lost touch with the gospel."

The Southern Baptist Church used the gospel to justify slavery. He's very plainly choosing to distort (read: lie about) his own church's history. Unreal that this gets posted here as if he's doing something laudable.
