JMO, but I think it's crazy that Buffalo doesn't have a covered stadium. (Original Post) Sogo Dec 2024 OP
Love games in snow and foul weather. Retractable would be a compromise, but still . . . . Silent Type Dec 2024 #1

Lake effect snow is very moist and therefore very heavy. Buffalo regularly sees a 20" snowfall at some point in the winter. The area covered by a dome is huge; the field itself is 1.32 acres, and with the space on the sidelines and outside the end zones, you're talking about a huge area. If you built a dome there, it would collapse. That much snow weighs thousands of tons.

Folks who live in Buffalo are used to the snow. They can handle it.

I've been to lots of games in the snow, you wear a snowmobile suit and get lower seats. They get too much lake effect snow a roof would collapse like many others do up there.

For one thing, they can't put vertical supports near the middle if the dome. The bases would be on the middle of the field.
They could probably do trussing, but that would cost much more & would probably affect sight lines.
A third option is a twin dome and the ability to blow very hot air in the gap to melt the snow before weight got excessive. Seems like that would be really expensive, too.

What I don't like see games played in 90 degree or more heat. As bad as it is for fans, it's worse on the field.
