First NFL coach to be fired this season?

This morning my pick would be One. Mike. McDaniel. of the Miami Dolphins.

In his third season, McDaniel has repeated demonstrated he is NOT a good head coach. After 3 seasons, his teams remain wildly undisciplined, committing sometimes game changing penalties in critical situations. He is completely unable to coach in adverse situations, like losing your starting QB. I can count on one hand the number of officiating challenges he has won since becoming a head coach.

Last night, I watched what had to be the most pathetic performance by a Dolphins offense in my 53 years of being a fan of the team. I'm almost certain the offensive personnel of the 1987 Strike replacement team might have done a better job. The Cleo Lemon led 2007 Dolphins offense might have done better last night. There is far too much offensive talent on this team for them to be performing so poorly. If you haven't been following, they have scored a grand total of 18 points in the last 11 quarters.

I know McDaniel likely won't be the first coach fired (thinking the Jaguars coach will be first). At the rate he is going, McDaniel will get himself AND the entire front office of the Dolphins fired at the end of this season.

The Quarterback is out again with a concussion meaning poor defending of the Quarterback....... I only have a loose understanding of football but I do enjoy the game.

I do learn much from posters like yourself... thank you...it's a process for me.

If the jerk cared one bit for winning and just just equity building, he'd have fired Baalke long ago, but he doesn't care one bit.

This morning I went to ESPN. After Goff’s performance last night that was the top story. I had to go to the NFL tab and then scroll down to even find the Titans Dolphins score.

Huntley’s QBR rating was 12.1. By comparison Goff’s was 95.1. Miami had 184 yards of total offense. Yikes.

...I think Goff's game demonstrates a problem with the Quaterback rating stat. The guy had a completion percentage of 100(!), and averaged 16.2 yards PER ATTEMPT!
And, his QBR wasn't the maximum! Huh?

they show but couldn’t find a good explanation.

Their WR AMON-RA ST. BROWN actually had a higher rating for 1 TD pass (to Goff) 99.6 - still not perfect? - to Goff’s 95.1.

Did he have a penalty?
On edit he was sacked 3 times so maybe that’s it.

According to ESPN, "QBR incorporates all of a quarterback's contributions to winning, including how he impacts the game on passes, rushes, turnovers, and penalties. Since QBR is built from the play level, it accounts for a team's level of success or failure on every play to provide the proper context, then allocates credit to the quarterback and his teammates to produce a clearer measure of quarterback efficiency."[1]

I don't think it is fair to pin this on McDaniel.

He is playing with his fourth QB who has only been with the team a few weeks. When he had his prime players last year, they were tops in the league in offense.

I think the front office shares a lot of blame here. They paid some top line players only to then let go of some others that really hurt them. They are worse at DT, DB and OL despite paying some guys there more.

It makes them highly susceptible to injuries which is a problem that has come home to roost. Last night they played without QB1, QB2, LB1, DE2, LT1, WR3 and Several DBs.

As bad as the offense was, the special teams was almost worse.

They are a disaster and look to be the worst team in the league right now. I just don't see it as the coaching thing as much as a front office and injury thing.

Second choice, Syriani of the Eagles, a Super Bowl team 2 years ago hav lost 8 of 11.

Coach and QB are not in synch...and it's pretty obvious they don't like each other.

When he's health the team is 13-6, not a bad record at all.

McDaniels deserves time to get a stable situation. His team scored 72 points against Denver last year with his playcalling.
