Saw one close up just a few days ago when doing a Christmas bird count. Was in near constant motion, going round and round a tree. Must take great patience by a photographer to get good photos like these!

You can tell they’ve been there because they leave a straight line of little holes around the circumference of a tree. Looks like it was drawn with a ruler or a compass or something.
