Rhys Hopkins' slide

During the Mets home opener against the Brewers on Friday, Hopkins’ 8th inning slide into second took out the Mets 2nd baseman Jeff McNeil, which sharply angered McNeil and resulted in a bench-clearing… nothing. Today Hopkins went 3 for 3 plus two walks, including a HR, and clearly he got under the Mets’ skins. A pitcher threw one behind his head at the start of his 5th at-bat, today , resulting in the pitcher’s ejection.

Apparently Hopkins and McNeil have had run-in’s before, when Hopkins was a Phillie.

Despite being a Brewers fan, I thought his slide was inappropriate and prevented McNeil from throwing to first to try for a double play. It was reviewed and the call (out at 2nd, safe at first) was upheld. Even though McNeil said later that he probably wouldn’t even have thrown to first, I thought the DP should have been called.

But anyway, I think it’s great that this has pissed off the Mets! Go Brewers!!

That one is a tad to obvious though.
