An announcement is expected as early as today on which team will land the unicorn (albeit an injured unicorn) that is Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers are the betting favorites. Ohtani is likely going to rake in a contract worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 million.

(76,676 posts)Much of the money is deferred over a long period. They fund 1/4th now, and spread the other 30% over the next 5 years. (Plus of course, the money owned near term each year).
Structured that way, that albatross weighs a lot less.
