I normally don't post in the sports.
I've been bummed out by the Sabres game performances for several years now. I still wear my Sabres winter beanie hat and sometimes my jersey.
I'm super excited about last nights game (May 16, 2026). I certainly hope they keep up the momentum.
Let's Go, Buffalo! 🏒🥅

One of my favorite hockey players is Miroslav Satan. I think the Sabres messed up not keeping him after that nasty lockout in the mid 90's.
I know who Jagr, Hasek, Biron, Lucic are....does that count?
And here's Tyler Myers teaching a nasty Flyers fan a lesson at home some years ago. lol!

(27,352 posts)^ That sounds funnier if people don't know his surname is pronounced "Shay-tan."
Was just curious how far back your Sabres fandom goes. I remember being a young fella opening up packs of hockey cards and seeing Gilbert Perreault's name in the mix. I had little awareness of who he was. I was a Mike Bossy and NY Islanders fan back then.

(12,154 posts)But on a serious note, I thought that Satan was a promising player while in the NHL and I really wished the Sabres would have kept him.
I had to lookup the timeline of the NHL lockout and when Satan was a part of the Sabres working towards the Stanley Cup was in 1999. Then came the salary disputes and then next lockout was in 2004-2005. I couldn't remember that far back.

I didn't always live in N.Y. My home state is Indiana. I've been a fan of the Sabres since Rob Ray, Brad May, Pat LaFontaine and the like so about the 90's somewhere around there. Insert a joke about the Rob Ray Rule here.
And since I lived in Indiana I didn't always have access to NHL televised games. I did attend frequent professional real live hockey games at that time too so I still got my hockey fix.

(12,154 posts)My neighbors and I were recently talking about Mackinac Island. The other neighbor asked, "Where's that?" The one neighbor said Michigan and I added, "In the U.P." I had to explain it meant Upper Peninsula because then they started cracking pee jokes after I said U.P.
In Buffalo, people mention the Ohio Valley and New England, especially meteorologists. I had to ask someone about it once because these areas are generally not mentioned in Indiana.
Sometimes these phrases are regional I believe.

(27,352 posts)that I would never make a U.P. urine joke!

(27,352 posts)Buffalo took it to overtime last night, but their season ended there. Hopefully they can improve on that next season. It was nice to see them back in the playoffs, at least!
Niagara
(12,154 posts)I don't believe the Sabres could win a game against the Hurricanes anyway. This upcoming May 21st game with the Canadiens vs. Hurricanes will be interesting.
It's been a long time since the Sabres made the playoffs to it was absolutely nice to see them back at it!
True Dough
(27,352 posts)There's a lot of promising up-and-coming talent there. A lot of promise for strong performances for years to come.
But I think the Hurricanes will have the right mix of youth, veteran leadership and playoff experience to eliminate Montreal, so long as Frederik Andersen holds up. He doesn't have to play out of his mind, like he did in the first two rounds, but he cannot collapse either.

(12,154 posts)If not, I'll check the score periodically.
I'm really interested in this upcoming game.
