American??? I DO NOT LIKE SOME OF THE MALE TENNIS PLAYERS. 1st one ..Ben Shelton, the Fritz guy, Frances Tiafoe, and Sebastian Korda. Ugh only American male player I really like is Tommy Paul. Is that wrong of me???

(40,977 posts)I rooted for Borg. Always. He was dignified. And I even liked McEnroe; he was a crazy New Yorker, not unlike me and a lot of people I knew. But Borg was noble. Had to go with that. Principles over country.

(38,459 posts)List, especially Korda. He seems like a very nice guy and has had more than his share of injuries.

(14,754 posts)I was surprised to see him mentioned, in fact. I recently saw clips of him for the first time in maybe a year and a half....a couple years ago he was climbing the rankings and seemed formidable, but something -- maybe an injury -- thwarted that.
I go back and forth re: Shelton. I dislike his antics during a match, but I forgive the same antics with Carlos. And his play is too "American," by which I mean big serve, very good forehand, and not much else, like seemingly every American man since Roddick. But he's steadily improving, so maybe he'll end up with a decent return of serve and backhand.
