Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson underwent surgery Thursday after tearing his right Achilles tendon again, the team announced.
Watson's "recovery time and return to play status is uncertain, and he will likely miss significant time during the 2025 season," the Browns said in a statement. Sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter that Watson's recovery is expected to take at least seven months.
During his season-ending exit interview earlier this week, Watson complained of discomfort after rolling his ankle while in Miami. A subsequent MRI revealed a "re-rupture to his Achilles tendon," the team said. Watson met Thursday with Dr. Robert Anderson before undergoing the surgery.
Watson, 29, initially tore his Achilles Oct. 20, marking the second straight year his season ended because of injury. He also missed the final eight games of the 2023 season after undergoing surgery to his throwing shoulder.

(18,052 posts)They will get some salary cap relief because of the insurance they took out on Watson. There best option is to sign a QB to a prove it deal like Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold.

Worst deal ever.

(58,284 posts)The Browns are stuck with Watsun and that $230 million dollar contract on their books, no trade value. and no performce. They got maybe half a year out of him and his performance was horrible.

Since signing a 5 year, $230M, fully guaranteed contract with the Browns in 2022, Deshaun Watson has started 19 games for Cleveland
If Watson is out for all of 2025, hell have missed 49 of the Browns 68 regular season games since he joined the team.
