Related: About this forumThe San Francisco 49ers will play six prime-time games this season, it was announced Wednesday, as the 2024 NFL schedule
was released.
(Teams always play division rivals twice per year = 6 games, then add in the NFL's rotation of other division play: Niners will play the entire AFC East and the entire NFC North with a sprinkling of three other similar record teams from outside of those rotating divisions = 17 games total)
Coming off a Super Bowl appearance, the 49ers were certain to be in the national spotlight again during the 2024 NFL season.
That much was made clear Wednesday, when the NFL announced its entire 2024 regular-season schedule.
The 49ers are scheduled to appear two times apiece on NBCs "Sunday Night Football," ESPNs "Monday Night Football" and Prime Video's "Thursday Night Football." San Francisco's six scheduled prime-time games include Thursday matchups against the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams.
The 49ers most noteworthy road games are scheduled for back-to-back Sundays when they travel to Green Bay for a Nov. 24 game against the Packers at Lambeau Field, followed by a Dec. 1 trip to face the Buffalo Bills for their second "Sunday Night Football" appearance.
Those games -- especially in Buffalo for an 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff -- have the potential for cold or inclement weather.
The 49ers first Sunday night game will take place Oct. 27 against the Dallas Cowboys at Levis Stadium. The teams met on "Sunday Night Football" last season, too, and the 49ers came away with a 42-10 victory.
As previously announced, the 49ers will open the season on Monday night, Sept. 9, against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets at Levis Stadium. They are scheduled to return to the Monday night stage in Week 17 (Dec. 30), when they will play host to the Detroit Lions.

(31,905 posts)And S.F. has to do it twice. No team should have to play Thursday twice in a single season. Four short weeks total (two Monday night games).

(31,905 posts)Sapped of energy -- too tired to go 4 quarters. Or missing players nursing minor injuries -- "one game inactives."
It's as if the 49ers were specifically targeted. Jerry Jones must be delighted.
I'd say the goal for 2024 is just to make the playoffs.

(98 posts)I'm a little concerned about the prospect of QB Brock Purdy handling the games in the NE like Buffalo and Green Bay, especially during inclement weather, i.e., rain and/or cold. He had noticeable difficulty passing when the ball was wet. How do you mitigate this?
