Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul will be a sanctioned heavyweight bout

The boxing match between Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 knockouts) and Jake Paul (9-1, eight KOs) scheduled for July 20 will be officially sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, Most Valuable Promotions confirmed Monday afternoon.

The heavyweight bout will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., and be contested over eight rounds of two minutes each. The fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves, as opposed to 8 or 10 ounces typical in professional matches.

Tyson, 57, became the youngest heavyweight title holder in boxing history when he won the WBC belt in 1987 at 20 years 4 months 22 days, reigning undisputed through 1990. He was the first heavyweight to own simultaneously the WBC, WBA and IBF titles.

Tyson last fought in an official boxing match in 2005 at Capital One Arena, then known as MCI Center, in the District, failing to answer the bell in the seventh round against Kevin McBride.

I have more years of disdain for Tyson but the Internet "phenom" disgusts me too.

I assume this is nothing more than a "show" fight. But even the whole spectacle of a "heavyweight fight" between the two with a 30 year (?) age difference is pretty ridiculous.

But, hey, I am no boxing fan, so what do I know?

The longer it goes, the less chance of Tyson to win this fight.

a controversial decision. An unsatisfying outcome for the fans. That's my prediction.

The first time Paul gets rocked, the ref will stop the fight.
This is an exhibition & the outcome doesn't matter. So, the fix is in, so to speak.

Tyson might not have the endurance he used to, but if he has even 70% of his punching power left it won't last long.

I'm worried about someone getting hurt in this exhibition. The shorter it is, the better.
