Kamala Harris talks WNBA amid 30 year anniversary
Former Vice President Kamala Harris attended the Los Angeles Sparks' 102-87 victory over the Chicago Sky on Friday evening. Harris, who was accompanied by her husband, former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, joined Spectrum SportsNet's Nikki Kay during the broadcast to discuss her admiration for the league and its continued growth. The game also aired nationally on ION.
Harris said the WNBA's combination of elite athleticism and impact off the court is what continues to draw her to the league.
Well, I love the W, and, you know, 30 years was looking at just the incredible excellence in terms of athletic ability, in terms of ambition, in terms of discipline, and what they are doing to model the height of athleticism, Harris said. But combining that with what they're doing to empower so many people who watch them, I love it. I'm a huge fan of the W. Doug and I, this is our date night.
Asked what has fueled the league's rapid rise in recent years, Harris praised WNBA players for remaining confident despite outside skepticism.
