Police: Man shoots up Idaho motel after smoking-fee charge

January 22, 2022

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A man upset with being charged a $150 fee for smoking in his motel room fired multiple rounds from an assault-style rifle into the building before driving away, authorities in eastern Idaho said.

The shooting occurred Friday morning at the Motel 6 in Rexburg, Idaho, and no one was injured, Rexburg Police Assistant Chief Gary Hagen said.

Hagen said the man was taken into custody later that day in Alpine, Wyoming. His name hasn’t been released. Police said he was traveling with a female companion.

East Idaho News reports that the front of the building was hit multiple times, and that some bullets went through glass doors and through more walls inside the motel. Images at the scene showed shattered glass and numerous bullet holes in the building.

REXBURG — A man upset over a smoking fee at a Rexburg motel shot up the building, witnesses say.

Friday morning, motel workers at Motel 6 on South 12th West told a man he had to pay a $150 fee after smoking inside the room he slept in the night before, they told EastIdahoNews.com. The man reportedly stormed out of the motel around 10 a.m., pulled out an assault-style rifle, and began firing at the building.

The male suspect was with a female companion. Both got into a black pickup truck pulling a trailer and drove off, according to Rexburg police.

The suspect, who the police have not publicly identified, fired the gun multiple times. Numerous bullet holes covered the front of the building, went through glass doors and through more walls inside the motel.

I guess they couldn't just step outside and smoke or go to a bar or something.

he's not going to be spending anytime soon in any hotels or anyplace else other than jail. And what about his female cohort? She's as guilty I presume too or was too scared to try and stop him from shooting up the place.

He's an example of a good guy with a gun standing up to regulations that diminished his freedoms. He valiantly put himself on the line for all of us who feel the suffocating effects of government intruding on our desire to go anywhere, do anything, to anybody, at any time if it suits us. If God didn't want him to smoke in that motel room he would have mentioned it in the Bible.
