Looking for 2 SciFi books

One had "star lords" who fought great wars during which planets and galaxies went out of existence, of something like that.
The other had a kraken which was controlled by a miniature kraken token encased in a transparent substance- maybe a cube. It was quite small like on a key chain.

I read these years ago and I can't stand that I can't remember the titles or authors.

Perhaps.

The other, look up the Dray Prescott series by Kenneth Bulmer or E. E. Doc Smith which has a similar tale.

The A. Merit book doesn't ring a bell but I will see if I can locate it.
