(21,041 posts)Walker, who used to be The Guardian's man in Washington, has now written a half dozen of these novels about his engaging police chief from the Perigord. Highly recommended. Next up, Hells Angels; a Strange and Terrible Saga. I'm hoping for an acid flashback.

(10,103 posts)Worst. Person. Ever. by Douglas Coupland.
The Silence of Bonaventure's Arrow, Rita Leganski (brand new and I'm not sure about it, but it sounded interesting)
A Tap on the Window by Linwood Barclay
Seven for a Secret by Lindsay Faye (another newbie)
Rules of Civility by Amor Towles (ditto)
and The Empty Room, by Lauren Davis.
I'm currently in the middle of a Tanya Huff series, so those will have to wait till next week...Smoke and Shadows, Smoke and Mirrors and Smoke and Ashes.

(813 posts)About 30 pages in. Feels like a John Grisham book...
I gotta say, reading a new Grisham is an experience like reading a new Lee Child: not that their books are anything alike, but going into each at this point, you know what you're going to get and generally, get it. This is not all that bad a thing--there are lots of things I'll keep doing despite/because of the sameness/familiarity.
Listening: _Between Planets_ by Robert Heinlein. Continuing on with his 1950's juveniles. Still being very entertained by them.
2013: 95 and counting.

(29,359 posts)I wondered WTH he's up to as I'm reading it as he's up to something, wait till you get to the end.
I can't wait to see the film and hope they do get Denzel Washington but Hollywood tends to ruin Grisham books such as The Firm, The Client, and Runaway Jury.

(813 posts)I'm thinking, "This is okay, Grisham stuff. But there's this real flaw in the plot and a characterization hole , and that's kinda bringing me down."
Then *bam*.
Nice. Really nice.
